5 Reasons to Move to a New City
Moving to a new city where you don’t know anybody or anything can be one of the scariest experiences for anybody. It’s very easy to get cold feet when leaving everything they know and love for the complete unknown. However there is no reason to let fear stop you from making a move deep down you know would be better for you in the long run. While moving to somewhere new can be absolutely terrifying, it is also one of the most exciting thing somebody can do. Here are some of the great things about movingto a new city where you don’t know a soul.
- You Make New Friends
The biggest reason most people are hesitant to leave for a new city is the fact that they will miss their friends. First off, if they’re real friends you will keep in contact with them. Living in a different city or state doesn’t mean you can’t keep these great friendships. With that said, moving to a new city means you get a chance to create new, unique friendships with people of completely different backgrounds than you are used to.
- You Further Develop Social Skills
Making friends after moving isn’t like making friends when in school. You’re typically friends with people you either have classes with or participate in the same activities as. Even in college this holds somewhat true, people typically gravitate towards people they either live with or share similar classes with. This is a crutch that some more socially awkward people tend to lean on growing up. When you’re dropped in a city where you’re alone, it’s time to overcome that. The only way you make the new friends referenced above, you have to learn how to break out of your shell and socialize with strangers.
- You Realize You Only Need To Rely On Yourself
When moving to a new city, you essentially have to start all over. A new apartment, a new job, learning the lay of the land, etc. And you have do all of this by yourself. No help from your friends, your parents, nobody. With nobody in the area to bail you out, you will be forced to be independent and make it work by yourself. You might struggle a little bit along with way, however conquering a new city will make you realize that you can do anything if you work hard and put your mind to it.
- You Learn Different Ways to Make Fun
Once you live in a place around the same people for a long enough time, you might develop a pattern. You celebrate Taco Tuesday at the same Mexican restaurant, you go to the same bars on weekends, you take the same trips during Summer. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing if this is how you like to have fun. However there is a big world and a vast amount of ways to have a good time. Once you get engrained in a new area, you learn how people around you have fun. It might be a unique nightclub or a weekly concert. Whatever it may be, you will have fun in ways you aren’t used to.
- You Grow Even More as a Person
Maybe the best thing about moving to a new city by yourself is that you get a chance to learn more about yourself as a human being. Living by yourself, you have the chance to try things that you might not have when you were living in comfort around your friends. Maybe you learn that you love to try new foods so you decide to take a cooking class. Maybe you visit a museum and discover that you love art. Maybe you decide to learn a new language and you discover how much you want to learn about different cultures all around the world. Regardless, you can argue that you don’t entirely know yourself until you have a chance to venture out on your own.
